This body of work is largely informed by my home and art studio located in a rural environment at the eastern edge of Los Angeles County. It is a mountainous area which offers a diversity of climate variations and sensations that influence my artwork, ranging from morning fog, deep snow, and wildfires to the smell of manure embedded in fields of grass.
Subject matter is derived from my surroundings as I respond to natural, organic objects that I have imbued with visual power. I dwell on the full cycle of nature, from life to death, encompassing life-giving images of flowers and blooming trees juxtaposed with plant materials that are windblown, withered, or dead. All these images hold both meaning and visual interest to me.
